The Storm King (Giant Monster Puppet)
Date
2022
Role
Head of Costume and Construction
This giant puppet was created for a production of the play Storm in the Barn adapted by Eric Coble, from the graphic novel by Matt Phelan. The character of the storm king is a giant rain monster that has stolen all the rain during the dust bowl.
This 14+ feet tall puppet was sculpted out of cardboard, layered in extra strong paper mache, and draped in thick fabric. This puppet was worn like a costume sitting on the actor's shoulders with a PVC harness. I chose to create this costume out of cardboard and PVC because the costume had to be worn by someone small and it had to be light enough to move around to travel with.
During this production I also was also head of costumes and other prop creation.
